The Heir of Autumn

Up late again last night turning pages through the end of The Heir of Autumn. Man, am I glad I stayed with it. All the good things I talked about in the "Should I Stay" post held. But talk about ramping up the tension and the stakes! These guys know their stuff.

I won't give away the end, but I loved it. It's satisfying for the single book, but also left me wanting to read the second one to see what happens next. Very nicely done, Todd & Giles. Of course, when I do finish The Mistress of Winter, I'll have to wait for the third installment to be available. And here I thought having books to anticipate was over after The Deathly Hallows.

Glad to hear enthusiasm for a fanatasy series. I've been really burned out on those (used to love them) of late. Read "Feast of Crows" by George R. R. Martin and was very disappointed (the first 3 books were great!).

Anticipation is good to a point. I'm focused right now on all those books I want to or should read that are already out. Struggling through The Stand at present. Jenny swears it gets good, but that Stephen King is always a slow read at the beginning when he's setting the scene and characters.

Here's to great ending, though.

Ah, nice to see we've pulled you into our little blogosphere. Enjoy your stay.

I liked The Stand. Hang in. I think you'll find it worthwhile. Of course, this could start a whole discussion on worldbuilding and how it's not necessary to do all your building in the first few chapters. That you can spread it out and be even more effective. [Note to Jenny: I'm not knocking King, exclusively. ;-)]

I remember lending a friend one of my favorite books, "Rebecca." She handed it back the next day and said, "I couldn't get past the four page description of the damn house." It can happen to anyone, I guess.
